#LizbethMitty (b. 1952, Queens, NY) holds a BS and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, earned in 1973 and 1975, respectively.

her approach to painting is deeply multi-sensory, with an intuitive connection between color and sound — a synesthetic process that informs her vibrant palette and fluid technique. Mitty prepares her large-scale canvases with washes, stains, and diluted pigments, creating a richly layered foundation.

her compositions are built through controlled pours, drips, and spontaneous applications, often using paint bottles instead of traditional brushes. this method results in a dynamic interplay between liquid and solid forms, where gestural marks and fluid lines emerge with an unmistakable energy.
